Man Dies in Fla. Balcony Fall
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) _ A 19-year-old Kentucky man died Monday after falling from a balcony at a Panama City Beach motel _ the only death of this resort area’s 1998 spring break season.
Mark Crance, of Nicholasville, Ky., died at a hospital after falling from a second- or third-floor balcony at the Sandpiper-Beacon Beach Resort.
Crance was registered in a second-floor room, but may have fallen from a third-floor balcony, said Charles Hundley, the motel owner.
Hundley said it was the first balcony accident at the Sandpiper in 40 years of business. He said the resort had hired additional security to prevent activities such as balcony climbing.
Crances’ death was not the only one of the Florida spring break season. A female college student died last month in Daytona Beach when she fell from a third story hotel balcony.
At least 500,000 revelers visit Panama City during college spring break.
