Celebration and thanks given at Citizen’s Academy graduation
People who attended classes at the Aiken Department of Public Safety’s Citizen’s Academy program gathered in the ADPS fire station for the last time Thursday night.
The meeting marked the last class of Citizen’s Academy. Attendees were treated to dinner and received a graduation certificate.
Aiken City Manager Stuart Bedenbaugh, whose wife previously attended Citizen’s Academy, was at the graduation, along with Mayor Rick Osbon and ADPS Director Charles Barranco.
Everyone introduced themselves and shared stories about what they learned during the classes about crime and about Aiken Public Safety in general.
Barranco said he and the department hope to hold a future event that will allow previous attendees of Citizen’s Academy to meet up again. He said some people who took the class now help officers with Gatewood Halloween each year.
