Scelzi Posts Quickest Run Ever
MOHNTON, Pa. (AP) _ Gary Scelzi recorded the fourth-quickest run in NHRA history to earn the No. 1 qualifying position for Sunday’s 14th annual Pioneer Electronics Keystone Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway.
Other leaders in the 41.6 million race include John Force, Warren Johnson and Matt Hines.
Scelzi, of Fresno, Calif., covered the quarter-mile track in his Team Winston Dragster in 4.558 seconds at 310.66 mph to head the Top Fuel field.
Force, from Yorba Linda, Calif., drove his Castrol GTX Ford Mustang to a 4.983 at 300.30 to claim the top spot in Funny Car.
Johnson, of Duluth, Ga., drove the GM Performance Parts Pontiac Firebird to a 6.940-second, 198.36-mph pass to lead Pro Stock.
Hines, of Trinidad, Colo., took the top spot in Pro Stock Motorcycle, running 7.273 at 187.53 on a Suzuki.
