March 18, 2019

St. John XXIII College Preparatory senior Jacob Gerberding was recognized as a TAPPS 6A all-state honorable mention in boys basketball after helping to lead the Lions to the playoffs.

Gerberding, senior Kirstian Gerberding and junior Kellen Amos all made the all-District 4-6A team as well, with both Gerberdings earning TAPPS academic all-state.

The trio propelled the Lions to a 6-6 mark in a competitive district, good for fourth place of seven teams and a playoff spot. They finished 14-17, with four wins against UIL opponents. They fell in the 6A regional semifinals to eventual state champion San Antonio Antonian.

The St. John XXIII girls basketball team was represented in postseason honors by senior all-district selection Megan Thorseth.

Both Faith West Academy teams finished third in their 4A districts and added academic all-state honors.

Senior Brayden Lamb and junior Zane Vincent made the list of scholars, joining senior Markeith Blankenship and sophomores Brett Warren Roberts and Lin Yang on the all-District 7-4A team.

Senior Grace Vaughn and junior Julia Grace Webster qualified for academic all-state, representing the FWA girls on the all-district team along with senior Mary Elizabeth Whitt and sophomores Savanna Zavidny and Miranda Tryon.
