FLORENCE, S.C. – A truck delivering materials to the Francis Marion University campus Monday afternoon accidentally struck the cap on a propane tank near the Hyman Fine Arts Building, releasing propane gas.

Out of an abundance of caution, Hyman and the adjacent Grille restaurant were evacuated and Heyward Drive was closed between Alumni Drive and Wallace Woods Road, according to an FMU news release.

Technicians and emergency responders came to campus and removed the gas, and the situation was normalized by early evening.
