Weather forces girls hoops sectional changes

Weather conditions have forced all the girls basketball sectionals to postpone and reschedule games. The following is an updated list of days and times for each site:

Prep sports events backed up by snow, cold

A number of local prep sports events have been moved as a result of the extreme winter weather. Thursday’s La Porte home boys basketball game with Valparaiso has been bumped to 7 p.m. Friday. Thursday’s Chesterton at Michigan City boys basketball game will be played at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Thursday’s Chesterton girls swimming and diving sectional preliminaries have been rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The finals currently remain the same for Saturday. La Porte’s gymnastics meet at Plymouth will be at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 11. Wednesday’s La Porte boys swim meet at Wheeler has been canceled. The Slicers’ home meet with Valpo has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday. No make-up date has been set for the Lake Central at Michigan City gymnastics meet that was postponed Tuesday. No date has been scheduled for Wednesday’s New Prairie at La Porte freshman boys basketball game.

LP, MC gridders named to region team

Three La Porte and three Michigan City players have been named to the Indiana Football Coaches Association Region I team announced Sunday. The list includes Slicers offensive lineman Brandon Seibert, defensive tackle Kaleek Biggers and linebacker Noah Perez, an at-large choice. Kaitlyn Freel of La Porte was also named a manager. Wolves running back Lyric McFarrin, tight end Justin Wozniak and wide receiver Zennon Wilhelm also made the squad. Selections for the North All-Star team will be made from the group.

LP Spring Soccer sign-ups extended

La Porte Soccer Club is for boys and girls age U4 through U19. The deadline for travel teams is extended to Saturday. The new In-House Youth Soccer Academy (non-travel) sign-ups will be accepted through March 31. Training and instruction by La Porte High School boys and girls coaching staff and current and former LPHS players. La Porte athletic events re-scheduled

La Porte High School has announced a number of schedule changes. There will be no JV boys basketball game Saturday vs. Oregon-Davis. The varsity game tips at 1 p.m. in La Porte. The freshman boys basketball game at Valparaiso has been moved to 6 p.m. on Feb. 7.

LP moves swim sectional, basketball game

The boys swim sectional originally scheduled at La Porte on Feb. 14 & 16 will now be at Chesterton High School. The Slicers JV & varsity boys basketball home games versus Goshen on Feb. 16 will now be played on Feb. 12 at 5 p.m. at Slicer Gym. La Porte will be one of the northern hosts for the girls basketball semistate on Feb. 16.
