Phoenix win Shoreland Slam
SOMERS — Luther Prep’s volleyball team won the Shoreland Slam Saturday at Shoreland Lutheran.
The Phoenix, Kenosha Christian Life (25-21, 25-11), Wilmot Union (25-13, 25-17), Shoreland Lutheran (25-23, 25-7) and Pius XI (14-25, 25-20, 18-16).
Megan Riley led Luther Prep in kills with 32 while Carly Hirsch added 20 and Marisa Shevey added 14. Andrea Bortulin put up 45 assists while Grace Kieselhorst added 30.
Ally Goba led the team in digs with 38, followed by Hirsch (23), Riley (22), Bortulin (14) and Kieselhorst (10). Hirsch posted 6.5 blocks while Shevey added 2.5.
“We have not had a game since last week Tuesday, so we were definitely ready to compete today and came out strong in the morning,” Luther Prep volleyball coach Erin Nottling said. “Our setters (Grace Kieselhorst and Andrea Bortulin) did a great job of getting all of our hitters involved and Ally led our defense.
“We had a close game with Pius for the championship and I was proud of the girls for mentally staying focused and finishing when they needed to. It felt good to come away with four wins today after a long break from games.”
Luther Prep (20-9) takes a 4-3 Capitol North record into a conference match tonight at Columbus. The Phoenix host Poynette for Parents’ Night on Tuesday.
