PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Philadelphia charter school official has been charged with raping a 14-year-old girl.

Police in Tinicum Township say they arrested 42-year-old Omar Harrison Wednesday on multiple sexual assault charges including statutory rape.

Harrison was the dean of students at Mastery Charter Middle School in west Philadelphia until he was fired last Friday.

That's when the school says it first learned about the accusations after the girl's mother came on campus to confront Harrison.

The alleged assault happened last school year, when the girl was an eighth-grader at a different elementary school in Philadelphia.

Police say Harrison gave the girl a ride to a suburban Philadelphia hotel and assaulted her there. It wasn't clear how he allegedly knew her.

Harrison is being held on $100,000 bail.
