Kathleen ‘Kassy’ Fruendt

Kathleen Lois “Kassy” Fruendt, 86, of St. Anne, passed away Friday (Nov. 9, 2018) in Clifton.

She was born Sept. 3, 1932, in Wichert, the daughter of Jake and Gertrude Vanderwal Schaafsma.

Kassy married Ken Fruendt on Oct. 25, 1957, in Wichert.

She had been the head cook of Wichert Grade School and also had been a cook for St. Anne High School.

Kassy was a member of the First Reformed Church of Wichert. She was a Sunday school teacher and belonged to women’s groups at the church.

She enjoyed playing piano, going to basketball games, spending time with family and friends and attending church functions. She was the 1950 Gladiola queen.

Surviving are her husband, Ken Fruendt, of St. Anne; three sons and three daughters-in-law, Jim and Suzanne Fruendt, of Beaverville, Joel and Suzanne Fruendt, of Batavia, and Jay and Dana Fruendt, of Bourbonnais; one daughter, Julie Fruendt, of Momence; four grandchildren, Nick and Ariel Fruendt, Sara Fruendt, Elizabeth Fruendt, and Adam and Emily Wojnowski; two great-grandchildren, Hannah Wojnowski and Hailey Wojnowski; and one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Joann Schaafsma, of St. Anne.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Jake and Gertrude Schaafsma.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Clancy-Gernon-Houk Funeral Home in St. Anne. An additional time for visitation will be from 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, until the 11 a.m. funeral service at the First Reformed Church of Wichert. The Rev. Randy Knoll will officiate the ceremony.

Interment will follow in St. Anne Township Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the First Reformed Church of Wichert organ fund.
