Ludington City Council to vote on brownfield funds for The Lake House
During its meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday at city hall, the Ludington City Council will vote on approving the proposed plan to let The Lake House property receive reimbursements for brownfield redevelopment.
The property is at 602 S. Rath Ave., also known as 704 Maritime Drive, in Ludington, near the SS Badger dock, and it is currently the construction site of an upcoming, waterfront event venue called The Lake House. It will have space for more than 300 guests, as well as a commercial kitchen so events can be catered on-site.
If the plan is approved, the property’s developer would receive tax reimbursements for approximately $204,000 worth of additional project expenses that are required because the site is a brownfield — having preexisting site contamination of some kind. The developer would pay the added expenses up-front, and then receive these reimbursements incrementally during an estimated 19- or 20-year period, according to the plan.
