SS Badger dock work continues despite federal shutdown

January 24, 2019

The federal government shutdown has caused many worries around the country — including local rumors about whether the SS Badger will begin its sailing season on time.

The carferry’s docks in Ludington and Manitowoc, Wisconsin, are both currently undergoing reconstruction, which must be completed in order for the SS Badger to begin its season on May 10. According to Lake Michigan Carferry (LMC), the dock work continues unimpaired by the government shutdown, and the sailing season is still projected to start on time.

“Work continues on both docks in Ludington and Manitowoc. Work has not been interrupted at all,” said Pat McCarthy, LMC vice-president of Shore Operations. “We’re on schedule to be completed by May 10. The government shutdown should have no impact on the start date.”
