Frenchman Wins Again in Biathlon

ANTERSELVA, Italy (AP) _ France’s Raphael Poiree won his second biathlon event in two days, capturing Friday’s 7.7-mile pursuit.

He was timed in 36 minutes, 14.6 seconds, with runner-up Ole Einar Bjoerndalen of Norway 13.2 seconds behind.

Poiree extended his lead in the overall World Cup standings to 44 points. Bjoerndalen is second in the standings with 139 points after four races.

Norway’s Ole Frode Andresen was third, 46.1 seconds behind the leader. Russia’s Pavel Rostovtsev finished fourth, followed by countryman Sergei Rozhkov and Ukraine’s Andriy Deryzemlya.

In the women’s 6.2-mile pursuit, Sweden’s Magdalena Forsberg beat France’s Corinne Niogret by 10.5 seconds, winning in 36 minutes, 10.2 seconds.

Olena Zubrilova of Ukraine finished third and leads the World Cup standings with 162 points. Uschi Disl of Germany finished fourth and Ann Elen Skjelbreid of Norway was fifth.
