Pilot Makes Emergency Landing Inside Trident Base
BANGOR, Wash. (AP) _ A pilot made an emergency landing inside the Trident base at Bangor, the West Coast base for the nuclear-missile carrying submarines, authorities said Saturday.
Thomas H. Chandler of Ketchikan, Alaska, reported that his single-engine plane was sputtering because it was low on fuel before he landed it on a long paved area inside the base, said base spokeswoman Lt. Kathy Woodcock.
Neither Chandler nor a woman passenger were not hurt in the Friday night incident. Chandler was ordered to get the plane off the base, about 25 miles west of Seattle.
Federal Aviation Administration duty officer Bill Turpen said Saturday that the agency had no record of the emergency landing.
