CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) _ Tammy Sutton-Brown’s layup with 6.5 seconds left capped a 14-0 run as the Charlotte Sting beat the Washington Mystics 62-60 Thursday.
The Mystics, who led 60-48 with 6:26 remaining, had a chance to tie, but Annie Burgess’ runner in the lane at the buzzer bounced off the left side of the rim.
Brown finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. Andrea Stinson scored 15 and Dawn Staley had 10 points and six steals as Charlotte (11-13) moved one game ahead of idle Orlando in the battle for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Chamique Holdsclaw had 15 points and seven rebounds for Washington (6-16). Nikki McCray added 14 and Vicky Bullett had 12.
The Mystics led by as many as eight in the first half before Charlotte rallied. It was 33-33 at halftime.
The game marked the first time identical twins and ex-Georgia stars Kelly and Coco Miller faced each other on opposing teams. Kelly did not play for Charlotte, and Coco was held scoreless in five first-half minutes.
