North Carolina Rep. Dobson running for labor commissioner
NEBO, N.C. (AP) — A Republican state legislator wants to succeed North Carolina Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry.
Four-term Rep. Josh Dobson of McDowell County announced his bid this week. He is a chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and has been heavily involved in health-related issues during his time at the General Assembly.
The Republican Berry announced last month she wouldn’t seek re-election to the commissioner’s post she’s held since 2001.
Wake County commissioners Chairwoman Jessica Holmes already announced she’s seeking the Democratic nomination for commissioner.
Dobson’s news release announcing his candidacy includes an endorsement from U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows of North Carolina, the chairman of the House Freedom Caucus.
