Man beaten to death in rush hour

August 10, 2018

A man is dead after he was beaten in his car by another man who got out of his vehicle on U.S. 30 during Wednesday’s rush hour traffic on Fort Wayne’s northwest side.

According to police, about 5:30 p.m., one of the men got out of his vehicle on eastbound U.S. 30 at the U.S. 33 interchange and approached another vehicle, hitting the driver. The assailant then got back into his vehicle and drove off, police said.

It was unclear whether the assailant used a weapon to beat the victim.

Paramedics, who were providing medical care when police arrived, considered the victim to be in serious condition but downgraded his condition before he was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The incident tied up traffic on eastbound U.S. 30 near Kroemer Road as crime scene technicians searched for evidence and detectives spoke with witnesses. The incident occurred west of Coliseum Boulevard where there is also road construction.

The Allen County coroner will identify the victim and determine the cause and manner of death. If the death is ruled a homicide, it would be the 30th in Allen County this year.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Fort Wayne police at 260-427-1222 or Crime Stoppers at 260-436-7867.
