Gas prices rise 2 cents a gallon to $2.53 in Rhode Island
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Gas prices have ticked up two cents per gallon in Rhode Island.
AAA Northeast says its weekly survey found that the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gas grew to $2.53.
That’s four cents above the national average of $2.49 per gallon.
It’s also 7 percent higher than at this time last year, when prices were averaging $2.35 per gallon, a difference of 18 cents.
AAA’s Lloyd Albert says that crude oil has been more expensive this year, and also in high demand. He says the cold weather has meant more crude oil is needed to produce home heating oil.
