Katrina Dick: Late summer sales make back-to-school shopping a breeze

August 2, 2018

Hello all, I hope your week has been well. Can you believe summer is almost over? I’m having a hard time with it, especially since I have been enjoying every ounce of sun I could soak up.

Its already August, and that means that our littles will be headed back to school in just a few weeks. While many of you have probably already gotten a jump on the back-to-school shopping, I’m sure that some of you are trying to wait it out as long as you can. I don’t blame you. It’s expensive, not to mention stressful.

The stores are packed, lines are long, and the fact that its 10,000 degrees outside doesn’t help matters. This is a tough time of year for a lot of folks. Even if you do okay financially, its still a big hit to your wallet once you’ve purchased clothes, shoes and school supplies.

The good thing about this time of year though is that, fortunately for us, the stores seem to understand. This is when they have their big sales and you can get lots of great deals; not just on clothes but school supplies as well.

JC Penney is having a huge sale right now, with women’s shorts on sale for $9.60, kids and young men’s Arizona wear at 50-60 percent off, and Nike backpacks at 30 percent off. Adidas for the family is also being offered at 25 percent off regular prices.

Old Navy is having another big sale, offering 50 percent off T-shirts, dresses, jeans and fleece. In addition to that, they are also having a $7.99 and under sale on thousands of items.

Kohls is another store offering deep “end of season” discounts. While these exact specials may change over the next week or so, end of summer and back-to-school sales will more than likely be going on until around the end of August, when everything starts to get revamped for (take a deep breath) Christmas.

A good thing about shopping this time of year is that the closer it gets to September, the bigger the discount is going to be. For those families who rely on clothing vouchers to help out, the list of stores that accept them is huge.

American Eagle, Rue 21 and Kohls are just a few in West Virginia that accept vouchers. Gabriel Brothers and Marshalls do as well, which means you can get a lot of bang for your buck.

For great deals on supplies, check out Office Depot. Right now they are offering some items for as little as 15 cents, and you can order online and pick up in one hour. Notebooks are as low as 50 cents a piece, Elmer’s Glue is $1, plus hundreds of other items that you probably need to mark off of your supply list.

Even if you don’t have a child going back to school, there are still plenty of deals for you. Whether you want to restock your closet or office supply cabinet, there’s something out there for everyone.

Check your sales papers and emails for special savings codes and offers. Don’t miss out on these great deals! Have a great week and happy shopping.
