Jean Taylor -- Minneapolis
Jean M. Taylor, of Minneapolis, died peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 10, 2018.
Jean Hovald was born Dec. 18, 1927, in Rochester, and spent the first 50-plus years of her life there. She attended Lourdes High school, worked at Mayo Clinic, and was an active member of Saint John’s Catholic Church. She married George Taylor in 1948; they later divorced.
She is survived by her sister, Mary (Jim) Webster; and children, Gary (Darcie), Rick, Jim, Tom (Laurie), Gayle, Bill (Lynette) and Mike. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, August and Rose Hovald; brothers, Gus and Frank Hovald; and sister, Gayle Hamel.
A Mass in Jean’s honor will be held at Saint John’s Catholic Church at a date to be determined. Memorials can be made to the organization of your choice in her honor.
Jean loved the simple things in life: raising her “seven wonderful children” on 33rd St., a new hiking trail or back road, traveling/exploring the U.S. and Europe, and a good game of bridge or 500. She was very proud of her German heritage and frequently credited her stubbornness for her ability to overcome challenges or seize opportunities. She embraced life in all its diversity and wonder, and enriched the lives of others through her caring spirit and adventuresome ways. Those who knew her reaped the benefits of her generous heart and lasting friendship.
She’s finally “reunited with Mom and Dad,” the wish we kids heard so many times over the last several months of her life.
