Police Unearth Remains of Boy Buried 27 Years Ago
BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) _ Police opened a murder investigation into the death of a baby boy after its mother came forward and accused her father of burying the infant, alive, 27 years ago.
Sharon Moore, 39, told police Saturday that she gave birth to the boy in her bathroom when she was 12 and that her father tried to drown it, police Lt. Steve Graham said.
When that didn’t work, he buried it alive in the back yard, Moore said.
Police found mostly intact skeletal remains of an infant after four hours of digging, Graham said. The bones will be turned over to the medical examiner’s office this week.
Moore decided to come forward after a lengthy argument with her boyfriend who encouraged her to tell authorities, family members said.
Her father, Paul Corvin, 63, checked into the hospital with chest pains Saturday night after another of his daughters called to tell him about the investigation, police said.
He was in the cardiac intensive care unit of Highlands Hospital in Connellsville, Pa., today in satisfactory condition, nursing supervisor Frances Longell said.
Police don’t consider Moore responsible for the baby’s death, and no charges were filed over the weekend against the father, but the investigation continues, police Lt. Chris Yannuzzi said.
Moore’s mother, Rosina Corvin, 59, said Sunday she wasn’t home when the baby was born and buried. She said her daughter didn’t tell her what had happened for several years, and that she understood Moore had tried to abort the fetus. Police said it was carried to full term.
Moore’s parents were divorced in the late 1970s.
``You always trust your husband, the father of your children, but he was no good. ... I guess I just closed my mind to it,″ Corvin said. ``I didn’t want to believe such a thing was true.″
