Pownal holds public hearings on town hall project
POWNAL, Vt. (AP) — The southern Vermont town of Pownal is holding public hearings on a plan for a new town hall.
The hearings take place on Sept. 24 and Oct 2 at the elementary school.
The Bennington Banner reports the plan is to move a circa-1840s schoolhouse to town-owned property adjacent to the current town offices. The town’s core offices would be modular construction, with the attached schoolhouse used for Select Board meetings and a Pownal History Center.
A bond vote of $575,000 for the project is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 8.
The total cost for the town has been estimated at $750,000. The town also has municipal funds dedicated to the new town hall.
