Stallone Plays Driver in ‘Driven’
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Sylvester Stallone plays a veteran race-car driver in the new thriller ``Driven,″ but he wasn’t exactly an expert behind the wheel in the beginning.
``I crashed, and I crashed, and I crashed, and I spun out, and I crashed, and then I finally got incredible respect,″ Stallone told reporters. ``Driving a car like this is not like driving your car. Just picture yourself going 100 miles an hour on ice. They’re going so fast, they barely have any adhesion to the surface. The car is always floating.″
The 54-year-old actor said he didn’t want to give himself the leading role when he wrote the script. Instead, he plays a has-been who returns to the sport to tutor a rookie, played by Kip Pardue.
``I’ve done the one-man band. There’s only so much you can really do with that _ the redemptive story. And I’ve done it in `Rambo’ and I’ve done it in `Cop Land,‴ Stallone said. ``I think we have some really interesting young, new talent here. I’ve solved a lot of mysteries in my own life and I like explaining to them. They’re always, like, so fascinated by it.″
``Driven,″ which co-stars Burt Reynolds and Gina Gershon, opened Friday.
