DPS identifies man in fatal motorcycle wreck
A 22-year-old Odessa man died in a fatal crash Thursday night near South Loop 338 and 87th Street in Ector County.
The two-vehicle collision occurred at about 6:54 p.m. Thursday, three miles north of Odessa. Austin Blackmon, 22, was pronounced dead on the scene of the wreck, a Texas Department of Public Safety report stated.
A 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by 42-year-old Eduardo Munoz of North Richland Hills, was in the left turn lane, traveling north on South Loop 338, when he attempted to turn onto 87th Street and collided with Blackmon. Blackmon was traveling south on Loop 338 on a 2016 Kawasaki motorcycle, approaching the intersection of 87th Street, the report stated.
DPS noted in the report that the portion of the loop where the wreck occurred has a slight curve in the roadway prior to the intersection.
Blackmon was wearing a helmet, the report stated. Munoz was not injured during the incident.
The wreck was investigated by DPS Odessa troopers Austin Hangerbrauck and Isaac Silva, the release stated. The incident is still under investigation.
