Bus Collision in Tanzania Kills 25
ARUSHA, Tanzania (AP) _ Two buses collided in northern Tanzania on Wednesday, killing at least 25 people and injuring dozens, hospital workers said.
Omar Chande, head of Mount Meru Hospital in Arusha, told The Associated Press that 25 bodies had been taken to the hospital’s mortuary.
Regional police commander James Kombe said police were investigating the cause of the accident, five miles east of the town of Arusha, but he said he did not know how many had died.
``We want to help the injured and rush the dead to the Mount Meru Hospital,″ he said.
Police and civilians pulled bodies from the mangled wrecks of the buses. The dead and injured were put in passing vehicles that rushed to the hospital in Arusha, where dozens of people were gathering to find out about the victims.
Witnesses said the buses were speeding in foggy conditions when they crashed at around 7 a.m.
