President Bush’s first week in office:
_Signed memo Monday reinstating restrictions on federal funding to family planning groups overseas that advocate abortion.
_Submitted education plan Tuesday to Congress. It would require failing schools to improve performance in three years or lose federal funds. Students could use the money for other purposes, such as tuition to private school.
_Met with Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., on Wednesday about campaign finance legislation.
_Visited Merritt Elementary Extended School in Washington on Thursday to tout his plan for annual student performance tests.
_Attended the ceremonial swearing-in Friday of Secretary of State Colin Powell and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.
_Gave first radio address of his administration on Saturday, promoting his education package.
