JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) _ Tyrone Latimer had 37 points and was named the tournament MVP as Central Missouri State beat Central Oklahoma State 117-112 on Sunday for the NCAA Division II men’s south central regional championship.
Latimer had 19 points in the first half. Demeitreus Drew chipped in 27 points for the game, and Chris Smith had 22.
The Mules led 62-49 at the half.
Central Oklahoma got within four points at 92-88 with seven minutes remaining, but six straight points from Latimer opened the game up, and the Bronchos never got closer than the 5-point spread of the final score.
Top scorers for Central Oklahoma were Junie Sanders with 34, and Zoderick Green with 22.
Central missouri advances to the Elite Eight Tournament of the division, which will be held in Louisville, Ky., starting March 22.
