PHOENIX (AP) _ Rookie Ben Grieve and Matt Stairs hit home runs, and the Oakland Athletics remained undefeated this spring by beating the winless Milwaukee Brewers 8-7 Sunday.

Dave Telgheder (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings and struck out four as Oakland won its fourth in a row. A’s starters have not allowed a run in eight combined innings.

Brewers pitchers had control problems much of the day, hitting four batters and walking six in Milwaukee’s fourth straight loss.

Down 8-5, the Brewers rallied in the ninth on an RBI single by Eddy Diaz and a sacrifice fly by Santiago Perez. But Jim Dougherty retired Bobby Hughes on a fly ball and struck out Brian Banks.

Cal Eldred (0-1) allowed two runs in 1 1-3 innings. He put on the first three batters he faced, walking one and hitting two.

Grieve, who went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored, doubled ahead of Stairs’ homer off Brad Woodall in the third.

Marc Newfield hit a two-run homer in the top of the fourth for Milwaukee. The A’s came back in their half when Mark Bellhorn walked and Grieve followed with a homer over the right-field fence.
