Police: Death of 76-year-old woman ruled homicide

CHILLUM, Md. (AP) — Police say the death of a 76-year-old woman who was found dead after a fire near Washington, D.C. has been ruled a homicide.

News outlets report that Jeanette Goines was found dead after a fire at her house in Chillum in April. Firefighters found her badly burned and it was determined that she died before the fire.

Prince George’s County police say in a Thursday news release that the body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy in which Goines was identified through dental records.

The medical examiner determined that the cause of death was blunt force trauma and the manner was ruled a homicide. An investigation is ongoing.
