Democratic activist to hold town hall on Trump impeachment
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Billionaire investor and Democratic activist Tom Steyer is planning to hold a town hall in Springfield to discuss the urgency of beginning impeachment efforts against President Donald Trump.
The Tuesday evening forum at Cedars Banquet Facility comes as Steyer’s group, Need to Impeach, has begun running a 30-second TV ad in Springfield pressuring House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal to subpoena Trump’s tax returns. Springfield is Neal’s hometown.
An aide to Neal has said he is moving forward with plans to subpoena the returns.
The aide, William Tranghese, said this week “a strong case is being built,” and the Massachusetts Democrat is consulting with lawyers from the U.S. House and the Joint Committee on Taxation “to determine the appropriate legal steps to go forward with this unprecedented request.”
