Rockies Turn First Triple Play
DENVER (AP) _ The Colorado Rockies turned the first triple play in franchise history Thursday against the St. Louis Cardinals.
With Scott Rolen running from second base and Tino Martinez going from first in the sixth inning, Orlando Palmeiro hit a soft liner to first baseman Todd Helton.
Helton caught the ball for the first out, threw to shortstop Jose Hernandez, who stepped on second for the second out and tagged Martinez to complete the first triple play in the majors this season.
The Cardinals last hit into a triple play on May 31, 2000, at Arizona.
The most recent triple play in the majors came last Sept. 13, when Tampa Bay turned one against Toronto.
