Marlins Sign Aybar to 1-Year Deal
MIAMI (AP) _ Right-hander Manny Aybar and the Florida Marlins agreed Monday to a $665,000, one-year contract just before the deadline to file for salary arbitration.
Aybar, 27, made $270,000 last year, when he went 2-2 with a 4.31 ERA in 54 games and 79 1-3 innings.
Florida acquired Aybar last July from Cincinnati for Class A right-hander Jorge Cordova. Aybar was 1-2 with a 5.19 ERA at the time in 33 appearances with the Reds.
He spent his first three years in the major leagues with St. Louis and has a 14-17 career record with a 5.06 ERA.
Also, the Marlins are close to agreement on a two-year deal with infielder/outfielder Kevin Millar, who filed for arbitration along with right-hander Antonio Alfonseca, shortstop Dave Berg, second baseman Luis Castillo, outfielder Mark Kotsay and left-hander Jesus Sanchez.
