Retired Department Store Chairman Dies
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) _ Julius L. ″Jack″ Meier Jr., retired chairman of the Meier & Frank Co. department stores, has died of congestive heart failure. He was 76.
Meier, who died Tuesday, was the son of Julius L. Meier, president of Meier & Frank, and grandson of Aaron Meier, who in 1857 founded the mercantile outlet that grew into Oregon’s largest department store chain.
He continued as president and general manager of the Portland-based Meier & Frank stores until 1969, when he was elevated to board chairman. He retired in 1972.
