Stranded skier makes it back home, family rescuers, search
GORHAM, N.H. (AP) — A stranded backcountry skier has made it back home safe following efforts by his family and New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officers to find him.
Officer says 20-year-old DeMarco Alvarez Leonardo, of Gorham, was exploring new ski routes on Mt. Moriah on Thursday afternoon. But he called a family member to say things weren’t going well on the mountain and was becoming concerned. The call dropped, and family members started making calls for help.
DeMarco’s brother and father hiked up the Carter-Moriah Trail to look for him. Conservation officers assisted. DeMarco arrived safely at his home late Thursday after hiking out of the woods.
