Cougars Claim Another MAC Freedom Title
The Misericordia Cougars stayed atop their conference for another season, winning their ninth straight MAC Freedom baseball tournament championship Monday with a 7-6 victory against DeSales. After No. 3 DeSales tied the game at 6 in the top of the eighth, No. 1 Misericordia (32-10) went ahead for good in the bottom of the inning at Owls Field in Reading. Misericordia freshman Brady Madden was hit by pitch with the bases loaded, two outs and a full count, bringing home senior Kenny Jarema for the winning run. Jarema, the shortstop, was 2 for 3 with a run scored, an RBI and two walks. Parker Abate also had two hits for Misericordia, while Tyler Holzapfel hit a home run. Sophomore right-hander Ian McCole earned the win after pitching three solid innings of relief for Misericordia.
