Ghosts Go Deep

November 11, 2018

WESTFORD -- In a game played entirely in a pelting rain, Westford Academy exploded for four second-quarter touchdowns and cruised home to a 32-6 win over Lawrence in a non-playoff football game played Friday night.

Senior Nicholas Faretra got the offense moving early in the second, hooking up with Michael Kennedy on a pass play that went for 50 yards. The sophomore caught the ball along the sideline and broke to the middle of the field, finally dragged down at the Lawrence 25.

Faretra would cap the drive with a fourth-down touchdown run.

Seniors Cameron Barisano and Scott Beattie hooked up for a 15-yard touchdown on Westford’s next possession. Faretra’s conversion brought the score to 14-0.

Sophomore Sean Brown had an interception in the first quarter and a fumble recovery in the second. He would put WA up 20-0, scooping the wet ball and advancing 15 yards for the score.

Westford had good field position on its last first-half drive and cashed in with Faretra’s second rushing touchdown.

The weather slowed things down in the second half as the ball became hard to hold onto.

After Lawrence finally broke through with a TD, Westford would answer right back with an explosive run by senior Tyler Bella, who hit a hole on the right side of the line and carried for a 71-yard score,

Faretra carried 10 times for 102 yards and 2 scores in the first half.
