Gov. Baker gives mixed reviews to MBTA’s storm performance

February 6, 2015

BOSTON (AP) — Gov. Charlie Baker is giving mixed reviews to the MBTA’s handling of the recent spate of winter storms.

The MBTA has struggled to keep trains moving after a blizzard dumped up to three feet of snow in parts of the state and a second storm dropped another foot and a half of snow across metropolitan Boston.

Baker acknowledged Friday that the MBTA was handed what he called an extraordinary situation with old equipment and worked it “reasonably hard.”

But he also told reporters that “there’s always room for improvement” and that performance overall was unacceptable.

He said he was as frustrated as everyone else was by the MBTA’s inability to deliver on the commitment people expect.

He said he plans to take a deeper look once the snows ease up.
