MEEK MILL DENIED NEW JUDGE

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has denied Meek Mill’s request for a new judge. However, one justice says Mill can try again after his hearing before Philadelphia Judge Genece Brinkley next week. Mill’s lawyers say Brinkley has made inappropriate comments in and out of court as she oversees his probation from a drugs and weapons case from 2008. Brinkley has said she is impartial to Mill. Mill was in prison for five months until the state’s highest court ordered him released on unsecured bail earlier this year.

BARBRA STREISAND LIKES THE “A STAR IS BORN” REMAKE

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Barbara Streisand is giving her approval to the remake of “A Star Is Born” featuring Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. Streisand says what she’s seen is “very good.” She says everyone knows the ending but they want to see how it gets there. Streisand starred in the 1976 version with Kris Kristofferson. It will be released to Netflix with an added scene of her performing the song “Evergreen” as an instrumental. The Lady Gaga version will be in theaters in the fall.

A GREAT BIG WORLD MAKES FRESH START WITH NEW LOOK AND NEW NAME

NEW YORK (AP) — You might notice something different about Ian Axel of A Great Big World: his afro is gone. Axel says about a month ago, he looked in the mirror and decided it was time for a change. He says he’s a new dad and he’s making new music, so he shaved his head for a new look. His bandmate, Chad King, also is different. He’s Chad King instead of Chad Vaccarino. King says he got tired of people saying and spelling his name wrong. He was inspired to change it after reading “On The Road” by Jack Kerouac. A Great Big World is putting the final touches on a new album. They recently released a single called “Younger.”

U2 PAYS TRIBUTE TO ANTHONY BOURDAIN

NEW YORK (AP) — U2 dedicated the song “Stuck in a Moment You Can’t Get Out Of” to Anthony Bourdain during their Apollo Theater show in New York on Monday. Bono says a “lot of inspiring, useful people” have given up on their own lives in recent years. He says Bourdain had stories he could not tell us. Bono pointed out the song was written for Michael Hutchence of INXS, who died of an apparent suicide in 1997. Bourdain was found dead in France last week of an apparent suicide.

DOORS BIOGRAPHER JERRY HOPKINS DIES

NEW YORK (AP) — The co-author of The Doors’ biography “No One Here Gets Out Alive” has died. Music journalist Jerry Hopkins died of heart failure in Bangkok on June 3, according to his son. He was 82. Hopkins was an early contributor to Rolling Stone magazine. He co-wrote “No One Here” with Danny Sugarman and published it in 1980. The book was the basis for the Oliver Stone movie “The Doors” in 1991. Hopkins also wrote books about Elvis Presley and Jimi Hendrix.

EDDIE VEDDER GIVES AWAY 7-INCH SINGLES WITH CUBS TICKETS

CHICAGO (AP) — Fans who buy tickets to the Cubs-Reds game at Chicago’s Wrigley Field for July 6 will get an Eddie Vedder record as a bonus. A 7-inch red-and-blue vinyl single of Vedder’s Cubs song “All The Way” will be the “A″ side. Steve Goodman’s 1984 song “Go Cubs Go” will be the “B″ side. One record will be given with each ticket purchase.

THE CHAINSMOKERS WILL DO LIVE SHOW BASED ON MUSIC OF PEPSI ENDORSERS

ATLANTA (AP) — The challenge presented to The Chainsmokers: do a concert based on the music of artists who have appeared in Pepsi commercials. Alex Pall says they’re kind of nervous but there are a lot of potential songs. He says they don’t get to play a lot of Ray Charles at their shows. Drew Taggart says they will probably remake Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” and “Run the World (Girls).” They perform Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” every Halloween, and Britney Spears is on the list. The concert will be staged in Los Angeles on July 24 as part of the Pepsi Generations Summer Music Campaign.

KELLY CLARKSON, RICKY MARTIN SET FOR NBC INDEPENDENCE DAY SPECIAL

NEW YORK (AP) — Kelly Clarkson will sing “God Bless America” with the West Point Band for the “Macy’s 4th of July Firework Spectacular” special on NBC. Ricky Martin, Blake Shelton and Keith Urban will perform as well. Additional acts will be announced soon.
