Police: No criminal activity in death of baby

February 27, 2018

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) — Police say they the death of a 4-month-old Tennessee girl in a Connecticut hotel last weekend does not appear to be criminal in nature.

Stamford Police Sgt. Paul Guzda tells the Stamford Advocate that investigators didn’t find anything suspicious in the death of Ria Dyals. The state medical examiner will determine the cause of death, a process that could take several weeks.

Police say the girl’s parents, Bethany Broyles and Cody Dyals, of Elizabethton, Tennessee, stopped at a Stamford hotel on Saturday on their way to Maine. Their 3-year-old son and an adult friend were with them.

The couple called police around 7 a.m. when they discovered the child wasn’t breathing. The baby was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The family has returned to Tennessee.
