Food drive to help students in Florence County

January 23, 2019

PAMPLICO, S.C. – Virginia Woolf said, “One cannot think well, love well and sleep well if one has not dined well.”

Food is a vital part of life. It’s a scarce part of life for some children in Florence County.

That is why Help 4 Kids Florence provides food bags for weekends for those who otherwise would go hungry until Monday.

That is why this is Childhood Hunger Awareness Week in Florence County.

As part of the awareness week, Help 4 Kids Florence is leading a Vienna Sausage food drive. KJ Market IGA locations throughout Florence County are collecting donations through Sunday.

In Florence County School District Two, weekend food bags from Help 4 Kids Florence have helped our students in numerous ways.

Many students get excited when they find food that they love in the bags, such as the fruit and grain bars, pop tarts and noodles. They come the next week excited to see what food they will be able to take home.

One student said he likes getting the bags because he can go home and share the food with his family. He also said the bags allowed for more food at home.

Providing the Help 4 Kids Florence bags over the weekend allows the students to know that enjoyable food is available for them to eat.

When they know they will be fed and full, students will be able to focus on and enjoy the other important parts of their lives.
