Stamford Jewish Community presents art show
STAMFORD — The Stamford Jewish Community Center’s Gallery at the J is welcoming a new show. ”Variations”is an exhibition of artwork by artist Ellen Gordon.
The exhibit takes place at The Stamford Jewish Community Center from Jan. 3 through Feb. 28. A reception for the artist will be held on Jan. 17 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Admission is free. The JCC is located at 1035 Newfield Avenue.
Ellen Gordon is a Stamford based mixed media artist. Her work on display is inspired from drawings from private sessions with a model. The finished work speaks about the creative magic that happens when inspiration and form collide. The artwork itself is the result of a searching process - finding the shapes and lines in the figure and transcribing those lines into contemporary portrait compositions. Gordon will be exhibiting her trademark figurative collages and new intaglio print series.
She holds an undergraduate degree from Boston University and a master’s degree from Baruch College located in New York City. She has exhibited regionally and is the recipient of many awards. Her work is in many private locations across the country and abroad.
Gordon serves on the board of the Greenwich Art Society and is the immediate past director of the Loft Artists Association in Stamford. Gordon teaches art programs for art lovers of all ages.
The Jewish Community Center is open Monday through Thursdays from 5:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s open on Fridays from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call (203) 322-7900 or visit www.stamfordjcc.org.
