Weekend death of South Carolina woman now ruled a homicide
WESTMINSTER, S.C. (AP) — The weekend death of a South Carolina woman has now been ruled a homicide.
Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said in a news release Thursday that an autopsy determined the woman died from a gunshot wound.
Addis said the death of 74-year-old Joann G. McCarthy of Westminster on Sunday initially afternoon appeared to be the result of medical problems.
The coroner said further examination Monday revealed McCarthy had been shot. That was confirmed by an autopsy Wednesday.
Addis said he had no other information to release now.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office confirms it is now investigating the death as a homicide. Spokesman Jimmy Watt also said in a news release that no other details were available.
No arrests have been made.
