KINGSVILLE, Texas (AP) _ Mark Grieb threw two touchdown passes, leading Cal Davis to an unexpected 17-14 victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday in the NCAA Division II football playoff.

Cal Davis (7-4) never trailed after taking an early lead with a Grieb 20-yard pass to Wesley Terrell.

The Aggies continued to build on their lead throughout the game, only allowing the Javelinas (8-3) to catch up once in the third quarter when the two teams were tied at 7.

The Javelinas entered halftime scoreless with the Aggies ahead by 7.

Reg Durden tied the game midway through the third quarter but Grieg's 51-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Bugarske less than a minute later allowed the Aggies to regain their lead, 14-7.

A Ryan Christie 29-yard field goal gave the Aggies the point margin needed to remain on top after a Durden 22-yard touchdown run.

The Aggies move into the quarterfinal round against Central Oklahoma, which beat Chadron State (Nebraska) 23-21.
