SOMERSWORTH, N.H. (AP) — The mayors of three cities in New Hampshire have officially come together to create a special regional commission to address homelessness.

On Friday, Somersworth Mayor Dana Hilliard formally released the mission of the Tri-City Joint Task Force on Homelessness. Foster's Daily Democrat reports the first step for the task force will be to create a master plan that outlines how Dover, Somersworth and Rochester can create a more robust homeless shelter for the region.

The process to form the task force began in January after over 80 people sought help at a temporary warming shelter that operated in Rochester during the winter.

Hilliard, Dover Mayor Karen Weston and Rochester Mayor Caroline McCarley say it helped them recognize they needed to address the growing issues surrounding homelessness.
