Divers recover Puerto Rico pilot’s remains
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Authorities have recovered the remains of a Puerto Rican pilot who went missing when a small cargo plane crashed into waters off a tiny Dutch Caribbean territory late last month.
Puerto Rico’s emergency management agency said Monday that divers found the body of Rigoberto Lopez Colon on the seafloor off St. Maarten. His remains were recovered near where fuselage of the crashed plane was located Sunday.
Puerto Rico had been assisting with the search for Skyway Enterprises twin-engine SH36 plane since the Oct. 31 crash. The plane was headed to Puerto Rico when it crashed shortly after takeoff from St. Maarten.
The body of the other pilot was recovered on the day of the crash.
Puerto Rico emergency management chief Miguel Rios Torres says Lopez’s family has been notified.
