Ireland backs Keane after incident at team hotel

November 13, 2014

DUBLIN (AP) — The Football Association of Ireland says assistant manager Roy Keane retains its “full support” after he was involved in an incident with a member of the public at the team’s hotel in Dublin.

The FAI did not disclose any details, but released a statement after what it called “inaccurate media reports.”

The governing body says Keane called the Irish police following the incident and that manager Martin O’Neill and the FAI are “fully aware of the circumstances surrounding this event, and the assistant manager has their full support.”

Britain’s Press Association reports that Irish police say an incident occurred at a hotel in Portmarnock, where the Irish squad is currently based, and that an ambulance was called to the scene.

Ireland plays Scotland in a European Championship qualifier on Friday.
