Protesters line sidewalk in Norfolk amid recent immigration raids

NORFOLK - An ICE protest took place in Norfolk Thursday evening at the corner of Highway 81 and West Norfolk Avenue in front of Walgreens.

The protest stems from the recent immigration raid by ICE Wednesday in O’Neill.

Coordinator Jasmine Chavez says they have a goal and motive behind their protest.

“I’m hoping that more and more people start doing the same thing. We start protesting they have to hear us. We’re trying to get our voice out there and let people know this isn’t something that is hidden and swept under the rug. We are people just like everyone else, we’re here so people can hear us.”

Chavez says a lot of the people protesting know a good majority of the detained immigrants in O’Neill.

She says they might have another protest Friday, but it will be more spread out with people set up all around town.
