Incoming House Speaker names Osborn to head budget panel
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — The income Speaker of the Oklahoma House has chosen a veteran lawmaker from Mustang to head the powerful House Appropriations and Budget committee.
House Speaker-designate Charles McCall announced Thursday that Republican Leslie Osborn will chair the committee, a position that will make her a key negotiator for the House on the state budget.
Osborn was elected in 2008 and is the first Republican woman to lead the House budget committee.
Also on Thursday, McCall announced that Oklahoma City Republican Jon Echols will serve as his majority floor leader where he will play a key role in deciding which bills are granted a hearing by the full House. Kingfisher Republican Mike Sanders was named McCall’s majority leader.
