Free Thanksgiving Day dinners available to vets, others

Two groups are offering free Thanksgiving Day dinners.

Registration is due Monday for a free dinner for veterans that will be served Nov. 22 at Sterling American Legion Post 296, 601 First Ave.

The first seating for Operation: Let Us Give Thanks will be at 11 a.m. Free meals will be provided for a veteran and his or her dependent children, and a guest. Families of those on active duty and deployed also can attend.

Identification, including a current veterans organization membership card or DD-214 form, must be shown at the door.

Stop at the post or call 815-625-1212 to sign up.

Also on Thanksgiving, the Dixon Knights of Columbus will serve a free dinner from noon to 3 p.m. at the KC Hall, 506 W. Third St.

For carry-outs or delivery within Dixon, or for more information, call the hall at 815-288-1821 or Betty Kanzler at 815-288-4775.

Transportation to and from the meal will be provided. Call the hall by Nov. 20 to make arrangements.
