Increase Fine, Cut Suspension For Team Owner Mark Simo
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) _ A NASCAR appeals board on Wednesday reduced the remaining four races of a five-race suspension against Mark Simo, co-owner of the Irvan-Simo Racing team in the Craftsman Truck Series.
The board did increase the fine against Simo from $5,000 to $10,000 to complete the penalty for technical violations revealed in a pre-race inspection before a race Aug. 1 at Indianapolis. Simo’s truck, driven by Bryan Reffner, was found to have a traction-control device.
Simo and crew chief Jay Smith were each fined $5,000 and suspended for five races for the violation. Smith’s penalties were not appealed.
