BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ Daunte Culpepper threw for three touchdowns and a season-high 421 yards Saturday as Central Florida defeated Alabama-Birmingham 35-13.

Culpepper passed 58 yards for a second-quarter touchdown to Mark Nonsant, who had 209 yards on only nine catches. Rufus Hall caught scoring passes of 34 and 4 yards from Culpepper, who was 24-of-36 and added a 3-yard scoring run. Mike Huff had a 6-yard run for a touchdown.

The Blazers’ lone touchdown came on a 26-yard pass from Rodney Hudson to Kenny Causey, whose catch capped a six-play, 81-yard drive. Jake Arians kicked field goals of 35 and 36 yards for UAB.

Hudson suffered an apparent knee injury on a Central Florida blitz and was replaced by Kevin Drake, who completed 3 of 10 passes for 9 yards.

Carl Saunders led UAB with 144 yards rushing on 21 carries to become the Blazers’ single-season leading rusher with 889 yards on 138 carries.

The win was the second straight for Central Florida (4-6), while UAB (4-5) suffered its third consecutive loss. Both schools are in their first years in Division IA.
